Installing and opening

The node

If the chain data is damaged beyond what the node can recover from, Settings → Storage → Delete chain data removes the downloaded blockchain for the node to download it again. Your wallet and its accounts aren’t touched, but syncing again takes hours.

Balance and sending

The wallet

Forgotten wallet password

Your wallet password can’t be recovered or reset: nobody, including Parallax, can open the wallet without it. What brings your accounts back is your recovery phrases and your single keys’ backup files. To start over with a new password:
1

Make sure you have your backups

Your recovery phrases, written down, and the backup file of each single key, with the password it was saved with. Hardware wallet accounts are backed up by the device. Without these, the accounts can’t come back.
2

Set the old wallet aside

Quit Parallax Wallet. In the app’s config folder (see Files on your computer), rename the Parallax folder, for example to Parallax-old. Keep it: if you remember the password later, renaming it back brings the wallet back.
3

Set up again

Open Parallax Wallet. It starts as on a first launch: if you had moved the node’s data, choose the same folder, so it doesn’t download the chain again. Then set a new password, and import your recovery phrases and backups; see Accounts.
If you had moved the wallet’s folder in Settings → Storage, it isn’t in the config folder: rename that folder too. On Windows, an older install may keep the node’s data in %APPDATA%\Parallax as well: it’s set aside with the rest, and the node downloads the chain again.

Logs and crash reports

  • Settings → Diagnostics shows the node’s and the app’s logs live, with a filter and a pause. Turn up Log level there to see more.
  • The logs are kept across restarts, encrypted so that only your unlocked wallet can read them. Clear logs on startup starts each launch with an empty log instead.
  • If the app crashes, it writes a report named crash-<time>.log to its config folder (see Files on your computer).

Reporting a problem

In Settings → About, Report a problem opens a short form on GitHub, with the app’s version filled in. Say what you did and what happened, and add the log lines around it.
Read what you paste first. Never share your recovery phrase, your password or a private key, there or anywhere else. Logs can name your addresses and transactions: leave out what you’d rather keep private.
