Signing a message proves you control an address without sending anything: you sign a short text with the account’s key, and anyone can check the signature against the address. Exchanges, pools and other services sometimes ask for one, as does anyone who wants to know an address is yours. Parallax Wallet signs with the standard personal-message signature (EIP-191, as personal_sign), so signatures made here can be checked in other wallets, and the other way round. Signing a message never moves funds.

Sign a message

1

Open Sign message

Choose Sign message in the sidebar. It signs as the account selected in the account switcher, shown under Signing as.
2

Write the message

Type the text to sign, for example I control this address. 2026-10-19. A message is 1 to 1024 bytes of text. Line breaks and tabs are fine; other control characters aren’t, so what you see is everything that’s signed.
3

Sign it

Choose Sign message. From a hardware wallet account, the device shows the message: check it there, then approve it.
4

Share it

The app shows the address, the message and the signature, each with a copy button. Copy copies all three together, which is what the other party needs to check it.
Only sign text you wrote or fully understand. Anyone you give the signature to can show it as proof that your address signed it.

From a watch-only account

A watch-only account’s key is on your offline signer, so the message is signed there:
  1. Write the message, then Create signing request. The app shows it as a QR code, and can save it as a file.
  2. On the offline signer, choose Sign and scan the code, or open the file. Read the whole message, check that the fingerprint matches the one your everyday computer shows, then sign it.
  3. Back on your everyday computer, Scan signed message: hold up the QR code the signer shows, or open the file it saved. The app checks that it’s the message you asked for, and that the signature is from the account.

Verify a message

Verify message checks anyone’s signed message. It needs no account.
  1. Fill in the message, the address that’s meant to have signed it, and the signature. Or choose Scan or open to fill them in from a signed message’s QR code or file.
  2. Choose Verify.
The answer is one of:
  • Valid signature: the address signed exactly this message. If the address is one of your accounts or a contact, the app names it.
  • Not signed by this address: the signature is valid but made by another address, which the app shows. Either the address or the message isn’t what was signed.
The message must match character for character: an added space or line break changes it.
The app takes signatures in the common 0x… form, and also as the parallax-wallet signmessage command-line tool prints them. It writes them in the common form.
