# Sending and receiving in Parallax Wallet

> Send and receive LAX, speed up or cancel a send that's waiting, and follow your history in Parallax Wallet.

Sending, and seeing your balance and activity, go through your own node:
it needs to be running and in sync. Your addresses and keys work without
it, so **Receive** always shows your address. For how sending works on
Parallax in general, see [Sending and receiving LAX](/guides/wallets/send-and-reveive).

***

## Receive

**Receive** shows your address, a **Copy** button and a QR code. You can
use the same address as many times as you like. Only send LAX on the
Parallax network (chain ID 2110) to it.

For a hardware wallet account, choose **Verify on Ledger** (or **Trezor**)
to check the address on the device before you share it; see
[Hardware wallets](/parallax-wallet/hardware-wallets#check-your-address-on-the-device).

## Send

<Steps>
  <Step title="Fill in the recipient and the amount">
    **Send** takes an address, or a contact's name from your
    [Contacts](/parallax-wallet/contacts). It says when the address is one of
    your own accounts or a contact. **Max** sends your whole balance less the
    fee.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the fee">
    The network fee is **Suggested** by your node, from recent blocks and its
    pool, or **Custom** if you'd rather pay more to get into a block sooner.
    A custom fee can't go below the suggested one: a transaction that waits
    holds back every later one from the same account.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review and send">
    **Review and sign** shows the recipient in full (check every character
    against the address you were given), the amount, the network fee and the
    total. It warns you when something looks off: sending to the same
    account, sending to a contract, or a fee more than three times what your
    node suggests. Then **Sign and send**: a hardware wallet account confirms
    on the device, and a watch-only account makes a signing request for your
    [offline signer](/parallax-wallet/offline-signing).
  </Step>
</Steps>

While the node is offline or still syncing, **Send** says so and waits:
connect, or let it finish syncing, first.

## A send that's waiting

A send stays **Pending** until a miner puts it in a block. From its row in
your activity you can:

* **Speed up**: send the same transaction again with a higher fee, so
  miners take it sooner. It replaces the original.
* **Cancel**: send 0 LAX to your own account in its place, with a higher
  fee, so miners take it instead. Only the fee is spent.

Either way, if the original makes it into a block first, the replacement
has no effect and costs nothing.

The wallet keeps each of its sends until it's in a block, and sends it to
the network again whenever the node starts or the wallet unlocks. A send
the node lost by restarting still reaches its peers.

## History

**History** lists everything an account has sent, received and mined:

* **Filters** for **Received**, **Sent**, **Mined** and **Failed**.
* **Search** by contact, address, transaction hash or block number, and
  **Go to a date**. Search by hash reaches back as far as the node's
  transaction index, about a year of blocks: go to an older transaction's
  date instead.
* **Export** saves what's shown as a CSV file.

On a new install, the history is indexed in the background: the latest
activity shows at once, and older activity appears as indexing goes on
(**Indexing history**, with its progress). Export is available once it's
done.
